Welcome

Ohio University’s beautiful residential campus is a center for academic, social, cultural and recreational activities.  The Department of Residence Life strives to engage, motivate and challenge students through staff members in 42 halls across three residential greens housing nearly 8,000 students.  Residence Life is committed to its five goals of health and safety, scholarship, student development, citizenship and diversity.

The Department of Residence Life works closely with Housing and Dining Services to provide an educational living environment for on-campus students.  Questions regarding initial housing assignments, housing contracts, or room configurations should be directed to the Housing Office in Chubb Hall.

2008-2009 Residence Life Theme

INNOVATION

Imagine individuals with unique talents, interests, insights, and energy coming together as a group.  What descriptors or images come to mind?  Vibrant, creative, movement, colorful, intelligent, challenging, active, insightful, ground-breaking, forward-thinking, imaginative, innovative.   Imagine the  Department of Residence Life and Off-Campus Living.

This year’s theme, Innovation:  Change with Purpose, reflects where we have been and where we seem to be heading as a department.

We acknowledge the sound foundation of our goals brought to life by the intentionality of our learning outcomes – a sense of purpose.

We are eager to be the best we can be though re-evaluation and seeking new ideas – an openness to change.

And we are energized by the concept of involving our entire team (all staff) and students in moving our department forward – a commitment to innovation.

This year’s logo reflects innovative concepts.  Based upon Andreas Rover’s Looney Gears, the mechanical gears are unique in size and may, at first glance, appear that they would not move interchangeably.  But they do.  The logo is vibrant in color and appears to have movement, even on paper.  It is this same vibrancy and constant activity that is found in our department.

Our commitment this year is to provide opportunities for staff and students to participate in creating the residential experience at Ohio University.   Our goals and learning outcomes provide direction; our approach can be modified and created based upon our innovative abilities.  This also holds true for individual students.  The collegiate experience catapults one into a world of change, growth and development with a purpose in mind:  to be academically and personally successful.

Keep the gears moving…..
Innovation:  Change with Purpose
