- SPANISH Major Requirements
The Spanish major requires a minimum of 40 quarter hours beyond 213, which must include 16 quarter hours at the 400 level. A grade of C or better (NOT C-) must be received in each course to count towards the major or minor. Spanish majors must complete:
____ 341 Advanced Conversation and Composition ____ 343 Advanced Conversation and Composition ____ 348 Spanish Civilization and Culture ____ 349 Spanish American Civilization and Culture (or 350, 351, or 352 only in México/WQ)
Select two of the following:
____ 345 Business Spanish ____ 354 Dramatizations of the Hispanic World (FQ) ____ 355 Fictions of the Hispanic World (WQ) ____ 356 Poetic Images of the Hispanic World (SQ)
Select four courses at the 400 level, one each of Language, Peninsular content, and Latin American Content plus one elective:
____ Language/Linguistics: choose one of 437, 438, 439, or 441 ____ Peninsular Content: choose one of 425, 427, 429, 432, 450, 453, 454, 455, or 458 ____ Latin American Content: choose one of 443, 444, 447, or 448 ____ 400-level Elective
____ 435 Proseminar may count for one of above depending on content, or as an elective. Speak to your advisor about a Substitution Form

____ An Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) is required of all Spanish majors. This must be taken and passed one quarter prior to graduation. See the OPI link for more information. ____ Study abroad for at least one quarter in a Spanish-speaking country. Seek pre-approval for non OU programs.
If you are an Arts and Sciences student interested in becoming licensed to teach Spanish at the secondary level (middle school or high school), please seek assistance at the department office, Gordy 283, to meet with a Spanish faculty member knowledgeable about language education. Together you can plan how to complete the licensure requirements listed under Modern Languages in the College of Education section of the Catalog. Prospective teachers are highly encouraged to spend at least one quarter in study abroad.
