Ohio University budget update
President's Message

Welcome to the Budget Update Web site. Over the course of the past several months, an abundance of information from many different sources has been disseminated widely concerning the current economic situation facing our university, state and nation. The purpose of this Web site is to provide one location for quick and easy access to accurate information about the current economic situation and how it could potentially impact the Ohio University community.

On this Web site, visitors will find the latest news from the Governor's Budget Office and the Ohio Board of Regents, initiatives undertaken by other public higher education institutions and Ohio University's budget preparation and planning efforts. In the column at right, a list of resources and contact information for constituent representatives participating in the planning and preparation efforts is provided. If you have ideas or suggestions for ways to strengthen our operations, I encourage you to share your ideas and suggestions with the appropriate representative.

As we receive news from our state leaders and others, we will continue to update this site with timely, accurate information.

Cordially,
Roderick J. McDavis
President

Budget Process Update from Executive Vice President and Provost Benoit and interim Senior Vice President Angelini

Following is an excerpt from a memo distributed via e-mail to university faculty, staff and students on March 10, 2010. Click here to read the full memo (PDF).

Dear Ohio University Students, Faculty, and Staff:

Our communication on February 15th indicated that on March 10th we would provide an update on the budget process and respond to the suggestions that were posted on the budget Web site in December and January.

A short budget update that appears here lists actions taken since February 15. Significantly, please note that the budget suggestion Web site will remain open and available until Friday, March 12.

Work on evaluating feedback and consultation with planning unit heads and the president will continue for the next ten days, and then our focus will shift to finalizing recommendations. Those recommendations will be provided to the University community on March 29th.

In early December the University community was invited to post suggestions on how to save costs, generate revenue, and improve how the institution operates. The suggestions were collected into a spreadsheet and made available to the University community in early February at www.ohio.edu/provost/Budget-Process.cfm.

In establishing the Web site, we pledged to review each suggestion that was submitted and determine its potential for helping the University to meet its budgetary challenges. A document containing the suggestions and our responses is available (OAK ID and password required). We were pleased with the quality of the suggestions and aim to make progress on the ones that offer the most promise.
