Planning for College

Not sure what you need to do to prepare for college admission? Here you will find information to help you select the college or university that is best for you.

Applying to Ohio University
Ohio University has approximately 4,100 spaces available for incoming freshmen. With more than 250 majors and programs from which to choose and a freshman to sophomore year retention rate of 81%, competition for admission is growing more intense!

To give you an idea of the level of our incoming students, here is the middle 50 percent range for students admitted to the Fall 2005 freshman class:

  • Top 15-46% of their graduating high school class.
  • The average composite ACT score range was 21-25.
  • The average combined SAT score range was 990-1190 (math and critical reading).
  • The average high school grade point average was 3.4 (on a 4.0 scale).

Undergraduate Admissions considers the following criteria in granting admission:

  • Strength of curriculum
  • Performance in curriculum
  • Class rank
  • Grade Point Average
  • ACT and/or SAT scores

To be considered for admission, it is recommended that you have taken the ACT or SAT by December of your senior year. Students are expected to have successfully completed a strong college preparatory program.

Particular attention is paid to performance in the junior year of high school, with consideration made for grade improvements or declines.
